About us

Our History

Women’s asai_logo cappella harmony has been part of the Uxbridge music scene for over 30 years. In the spring of 1981, a group of ladies who were interested in singing barbershop harmony got together to explore the possibility of starting a chorus. They advertised in the local newspaper, encouraged their friends and neighbours to join them, and in a very short time they were established as a “Prospective Chorus” of the Sweet Adelines International Organization. Uxbridge Chorus entertained the community as the members developed their musical skills and knowledge of the Barbershop art form.

Just three short years later, all of their hard work paid off. They achieved the musical and performance standard required to be granted a charter. To this day, the Music Award Certificate dated September 14th, 1985 is proudly displayed in the Music Hall show case. There are three charter members who are currently members of the chorus. Memorabilia and photos from that era tell the stories of friendship, the joy of singing and the chorus’ involvement in the community. Uxbridge Chorus competed in its first Regional Competition in the spring of 1986.

In 1991, the chorus name was changed to Pineridge Chorus to reflect the inclusion of members from other communities in the surrounding areas. Today there are members from a number of communities, including Uxbridge, Port Perry, Sunderland, Janetville, Mount Albert, Ballantrae, Bolsover and Zephyr.

Linda Morrison is thrilled to be the new Director of Pineridge Chorus!

Linda Pic

For the past sixteen years, Linda has been sharing her beautiful tenor voice as a member of York Highlands Chorus, an award-winning Region 16 chorus from Newmarket, Ontario. Linda is a member of the Music Direction Team and Tenor Section Leader with York Highlands.

Linda has sung in a number of quartets, including Moonlight Express!,  The Biz!,   Here & Now! and S.L.A.M.! Linda loves to compete (and win!). Here & Now! wowed the judges and won first place two years in a row – 2010 and 2011 – at Region 16’s Annual Quartet Competition and in 2013 and 2014 won first place with S.L.A.M.! quartet.  As Regional champions with Here & Now!  and S.L.A.M.! quartets, they proudly represented Region 16 at the Sweet Adelines International quartet contest in Houston, Seattle, Baltimore and Las Vegas!

Uxbridge has been home to Linda and her family for more than thirty years, so she is particularly thrilled to be able to share her love of barbershop harmony and her many musical talents as Director of her hometown chorus.

As Musical Leader, Linda brings with her more than 30 years of chorus and quartet experience, the benefit of extensive regional and international coaching, new ideas and a new direction.   She looks forward to working with the chorus membership and management team.    “Harmonizing the World”, one town at a time – beginning with Uxbridge!

Our Organization

Pineridge is part of a world wide organization of women of all ages and all walks of life who are committed through education and performance to singing four part a cappella harmony. We are part of Region 16 in the Sweet Adelines organization. Our Region has both Canadian choruses from Southern Ontario and American choruses from New York State. There is a competition each year in Syracuse and a Music School in the fall of each year. Members have the option to attend both.

Pineridge Chorus has evolved through the years adapting to changes in music, fashion, and performance. We have moved into the electronic world of learning CD’s, DVD’s and websites, but what has not changed is our love of barbershop harmony, the friendship of women of all ages who share similar interests and, most importantly, the opportunity to perform and to contribute to our community.

No formal music training is required to become a member, just the desire to learn to sing harmony. Music and performance education are part of our ongoing program. If you have a pitch pipe and three friends who sing a different harmony part, WOW, you have a potential quartet.

The chorus meets every Monday evening at 7:15 P.M. at the Historic Uxbridge Music Hall ( 16 Main St. S.) which we have been proud to call home since our early beginnings. New members are always welcome, so consider stopping by on a Monday evening and discover the joy of “Ringing a Chord.” For more information, visit our How to Join section.
